Latest work here. Working with Tony 'Mack' McNally who served in the Falkland War as a rapier operator. I do recommend his book 'Watching Men Burn'.... I will attempt to painting Tony now...plagued with faceless demons brought on by PTSD and his role in shooting down the enemy.
I do admire your single mindedness and dedication A G to all your work. I doubt if I would enjoy that particular book, it sounds as though it is harrowing .
You paint so well Ant, I like to keep up with the progress of your work.
I went to the Falkland Islands in January this year. It looks just like Dartmoor by the see. I believe our Marines felt really at home there as they were quite used to romping over the moor. The poor Argentinian conscripted boys, had no training or warm clothes and were freezing to death. No wonder most of them surrendered. It was really foolish for the Argentinians to attack in their winter (our Summer). I believe the Argies abandoned the Geneva convention and dropped prisoners of war into the ocean from helicopters. They also held the children of the island to ransom. Yet still Argentina claims that the Malvinas are theirs, even though they have never been inhabited by any Spanish speaking nation. There are red, telephone and letter boxes in Stanley as well as a statue of Margaret Thatcher and a memorial to all our service personnel who gave their lives. . Best of luck with your painting and commemoration of the 35th Anniversary.
Now complete and in gallery
