Pencil sketch for a 20x30cm pen and ink drawing of the Odeon cinema and the Automotive Supplies garage in Buttermarket Street in Warrington.
Great perspective Bari and the little figures dotted about look good.
Thanks Denise, I've made a few changes put a car in the garage and a man on a stool out side plus making a start on the bricks
A little bit more
The finished work
Wow!  I love the quaint little shop squeezed in the middle - the sort you don't see any more. A tobacconist perhaps, or maybe a sweet shop or philatelist.  Takes me back to Saturday morning pictures, circa late 50s, the Astoria, Old Kent Road, just along from the canal.   A scab on both knees and a shilling in your pocket. 6d to go in, leaving another 6d for some sweets and a bag of foreign stamps. The glamour of childhood!
A labour of love - when did  you first get infatuated with a brick? I think of you as Bari Bricks - and an excellent drawing: some really difficult angles to get right in that old building - this would look fantastic mounted and in a glazed frame.
Thanks Colin and Robert the pen and ink and bricks started 53 years ago with a print at an Aunt's house it's more stone than brick and I do the drawing from memory on the first page of all my journals, it's the left handed stairs in Castle Bolton in Yorkshire..
Great piece of work Bari, I don’t know how you can draw all those bricks and cobbles so quickly!
Not as quick as it seems Gillian I'm lucky if I get 5 hours sleep a night, so do spend late evenings and early mornings drawing.
That explains it then! I must admit that I have problems sleeping and have thought about doing the same but didn’t want to get into a habit!  It seems to work for you though!
Bari, your drawing of the stairs reminded me of a photo I took in Carew Castle. How many folk have walked up and down them over the centuries!   Spooky! I keep thinking that it would make a challenging subject - perhaps in pencil and monochrome wash.  Feel free to use it if you wish.
