I think on the whole I like it. I tried to do more splat but  once dry it shows far less. My big brush still only splattered the same size drops as my small one frustratingly. Perhaps as far as the arrangement goes I’m over thinking this. I held each leaf individually to copy, so maybe dropping the leaves and drawing them how they’ve landed as you suggest would be better.

Brilliant…old tooth brushes are great for splat .  A thought , rather than hold  the leaf ,yes drop them ,drop onto white paper ,don’t pick up to paint .  You have done well.

On the whole I think I like it. I’d prefer more vibrant colours, but that was the fault of only having a few gouache paints I think and I’d prefer a looser look, but I’m very inexperienced as a painter so I don’t really know what I’m doing yet.  The splats aren’t showing up so much in my photo as in reality, but I’m still not managing to get the splats of different sizes. I take your point about just letting the leaves fall. I took each individual leaf to copy. When I can I’m going to do a bit more work on the previous painting and add some leaves (and more splat!)
Ignore the last reply. I thought my previous one had disappeared. Thank you for your encouragement
Ignored  and you are welcome.  We all need help at times , I am about to embark on a precious portrait and I have received so much encouragement on this forum .  It’s still not started…..but I will.
We have a few autumn leaf painting demos here which might offer some help https://www.painters-online.co.uk/tips-techniques/search/?Search=leaves
Hi Caroline, When I saw the original I instantly saw falling leaves and thought it was an excellent piece of work. I agree with everyone else regarding things you could have done, but the fact is that this was what you saw and felt at the time so job done for that piece of work.
Thank you
Your painting is lovely, Caroline. I'm inspired to gather some leaves and have a go myself.
Have just brushed my forth load from in front of my door if anyone would like a go at these...would make a good jigsaw.
