Impressive painting, impressive looking gentleman - not one with whom the wise would take liberties.....
Looking forward to seeing it finished, but in the meantime it's always fascinating to see the different ways people have of building a painting. As I think I've said before, your method is very close to the way paintings were built up before Impressionism and 'direct painting' changed things: it's good to see the traditional method, if not in your case the traditional materials, being used again - it can produce great depth in a portrait.
