Also—as with others here—in response to a comment re WIP, I offer this.
I work with pastels when out sketching the landscape. Most usually the sketches are used as starting points for acrylic works. I recently attended a workshop exploring a more loose and expressive use of pastels. I decided to start out pretty much straight away on a piece whilst the feeling was still fresh.
The loose underpainting is in acrylic and acrylic inks. There is also some restrained use of acrylic clear gesso for a little texture.
There's a lot of water about so the paper is stretched. From there I've been working with soft pastels to develop the image.
I'm now at the stage where I think I need to let it fester for a while before I take to it again with the intention to loosen it up considerably.
