I have given it a try, I have bought four bottles artists acrylic ink from daler Rowney. Love the brightness, not too happy about applying somehow I did not get it right until I flow the paper with water and let everything go. I gave up, however I have found that I am using them for details with a nib pen and then it becomes fabulous. All together they are not for me.

Thank you both for your interesting comments. I will have to experiment on various papers I think and try to discover what works well for me. Could turn out to be yet another impulse buy that will never be used :-D

Hi Roobs...I like acrylic inks. I tend to use acrylic inks by brush for a translucent wash over an acrylic colour...or to use them via steel nibbed calligraphy pen to add some fine line detail...I also use 'Uni-ball' 'Signo' roller-ball pens for silver or gold detail... My current favourite brand is 'Magic Colour' The dark colours a strong enough to show through a fairly heavy layer of W&N 'Galleria' brand of acrylics (but not through their 'Finty' range... They are rather slow drying (smudge readily) and low in colour intensity...but you can build it up carefully in layers...

Roobs, you might find that the White ink is great for fur effect applied with a nib.

Hi Roobs if you are going to use the inks on Chinese Rice Paper don't use a nib...get some Chinese paint brushes great for watercolour too...they should come up to a very fine point.. If you are going to use them to outline use the smallest brush, wet it and flick it and then it should come up to a very fine point You can also double load them by using one colour of ink and dipping the brush into another...it makes for some really interesting effects Good luck

I use Acrylics over oil pastels, you must get the ratio of water to paint correct or the resist will not work! Annie

I've just received my October issue of LP and was delighted to see on the cover a step-by-step coloured pencils demo'. However..... I'm at a bit of a loss as most of the painting is "painted" using a brush. You have to scrape the colour off the pencil and a make a wash or take the colour straight off the pencil with a brush..... what is the advantage or difference from just using watercolour paints? I sometimes use my wc pencils colouring onto the paper and then wetting with a brush of water and thought this was the way to use them... 8-) Looking foreward to a lesson on wc pencils....... please enlighten me, Avie.
