The reason why watercolour pans and tubes are so small is because the colours are very concentrated and watercolor paints are very diluted befor brushing them on the paper. I have done lots of paint charts for mixes but it is difficult to get the dilution of the colours to the strength that would look right on say a landscape. Manufacturers paint charts show the colours at just below full strength and they only look right if the colours are shown graded to a useful strength. Burnt Umber looks awful in "mass" but it looks great when diluted to wash in a sandy beach colour. I rest my case....Syd
