My eldest daughter who's 13 is really into art, but today she came home from school and declared what she's learning at school in art, is just well a bit boring. She watches me painting all the time with interest, and says it looks fun and like I really enjoy it, and just doesn't get how school can make it so boring. So today she asked to learn watercolours with me (yay I was super duper excited and chuffed too, she wants to communicate with me) how could I refuse. We decided together to try an abstract street scene as i want to be more Thalia lol, and learn to paint looser, and she agreed it's a good subject to start with. Well here's our results.......
This is mine.
That's great news, Jen. You've made a great start together. Your daughter isn't afraid of colour. Its sad to read she finds inspiration lacking with her art at school. I couldn't wait for art class, maybe its the tutor. Keep them all in a folder, so nice to look back on when she gets older.
Jen, it sounds as if your daughter is very 'arty' liking music too. Her painting and yours are super, and it's so sad she doesn't have a good art teacher. My young great niece likes art too and her art teacher sounds pretty dire, giving them graffiti to draw and paint! She feels she gets no encouragement either. I hope your daughter goes on to great things with her music.
Jen, both the paintings look super :) Good luck to your daughter with her art at school. Doing lots of stuff at home is probably a brilliant idea as, unless it has changed hugely from when I'm at school, the teacher is probably having to deal with about 30 kids - most of whom probably aren't that interested - and limited (and not very good) art materials. Best of luck and hope you both continue to enjoy painting together :)
