Sorry if this is really a naive question, but Is it really unacceptable to use white in watercolour paintings? I don't normally use it for highlights etc but felt its use was quite successful on a painting I'm hoping to submit as part of an application for membership of a watercolour society and although it is not stated in any rules - is the use really frowned upon? The other thing I'm not clear about is the difference between white watercolour paint (ie w/n chinese white) and goache. I have used it lavishly and it is obviously white but it suited the the composition.
