The forum seems to have gone a bit stale of late so how about a thread where we can all contribute from time to time to keep it alive - maybe a tip a day.
How about this to start things off: when painting skies I often wet the paper first BUT not all over - only here and there. Then when I put my washes down I get a mixture of soft and hard edges. As a result I get some lovely muted effects plus 'bits' of virgin white paper which add sparkle. If there is too much sparkle I can always soften it a bit with a damp brush.
Take a look at my Leicestershire fields and you will see what I mean.
