Thought I'd leave a question for you all, before I go off for the weekend to a wedding (not mine, praise be..) .... in watercolour (or acrylic or oil for that matter) do you customarily do a pencil sketch, or go straight in with the brush? I used to always start with a pencil drawing - I don't mean just a sketch in a pad from which to work, but a drawing on the w/colour paper; sometimes, especially if I want a pencil structure to show through and be part of the painting, I still do. But lately I've been tending to go straight in with the brush, and find I'm no less accurate than I would have been if I'd mapped it all out carefully beforehand. There's nothing "right" or "wrong" about either method, it would just be interesting to know what others do.
