That was what R O Dunlop recommended for watercolour painting in his Teach Yourself Painting for Pleasure book, decades ago now. Never quite understood why, since specific watercolour paper was of course available then... but I wonder if anyone does regularly paint on heavyweight cartridge, and if so whether they prepare it, eg stretch it, first - how they deal with cockling etc?
I have used heavy cartridge for quick watercolour sketches, Daler Rowney's specifically, and like the way the paint glides across the surface - but beyond a single wash found it very hard to control; how about you?
