I am having another shot at painting from this photograph
I find it relatively easy to get the right colours for the buildings in full sun on the left hand side of the photograph using naples yellow + ochres and siennas.
But when I try to get the darker shades on the buildings to the right I seem to end up with greyish colours rather than darker versions of the colours on the left.
I am wondering how best to mix these darker shades of the sunlit buildings while not losing the warmth of the stone.
My first sketchy attempt at the painting can be seen here.
Thanks in anticipation.
Tom
