Being immobilised with a broken arm which is putting artistic activity out of consideration I have resorted to re-reading The Artist / Leisure Painter, DVDs and recently watching Teaching Art on SAA. I have been struck with the regularity of being told what colours to use, which brushes to buy and more recently what support to use. Most of which can be purchased from the demonstrating artist.
I appreciate that times are hard for most people including artists but can't help wondering if this "hard sell" might not put some people off art altogether.
I experienced this sort of thing at an art classin Lincolnshire a year or two ago when I was rebuked by the tutor for using artist quality watercolours, sable brushes and quality paper.
Am I being over sensitive?
