Bain of my life!!!! Sheet after sheet after sheet, youtube after youtube after youtube......Pages and pages of bloody blue rubbish sploshed like royal blood on a medieval battlefield!!!! GRRRRRR I have finally got one sheet where there's something half decent. I need better paint. I need better brushes. I need better paper. I need some skill is what I need. I think I reached the stage where I would never get it right because I was seeking something that couldn't be painted. Time to let them dry and walk the dog. Rant over. As you were men (and women) David
Keep at it, David; you'll get there. Darker at the top, lighter near the horizon (according to a book or two), even in Australia where you think you'd need to do it upside down.

Tee hee ..... we've all been there, you know.... Good paper does help; good paint certainly helps; as for brushes, try a flat synthetic, like Dalon, or even a hake (NB - not everybody gets on with hakes). But above all you need to judge the amount of water you use, and the wetness of the actual paint - and that's a matter of feel, and it only comes through practice. You um, you tend not to get this trouble with oil or acrylic - although you can, if you use the acrylic wet enough.......... something to look forward to, eh? http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
Thanks. I think Ive got what I want, for now...but Im sure it was a lucky accident. I shall just keep trying trying trying. Regarding Australia...if I paint somewhere in the equatorial regions does it get darker to one side only??? D
Hi David, don't give up and never underestimate yourself. Always question what you are doing, but never be harsh on yourself. The real secret is to just enjoy it. Here is a video which I hope will help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnUQ0osB61w
I've just checked that video out and wow it's the wettest wet on wet painting I've ever seen! Very talented lady I think. Thanks for the link artinhastings.
I think it's called wishful thinking Syd, that if you paint the sun and blue sky it will magically appear where you are. I, for one would love to see a blue sky!
It wasn't until I started trying to draw clouds that I first noticed how many colours there really are in a fluffy white cloud with a grey bit on it
I was commenting on a flower painting on the gallery yesterday Alan where the artist thought she was painting a black iris and found so many colours in it. You don't realise how many colours are hidden in such a simple thing as a cloud.
Buy yourself some atomisers of various sizes and roll up kitchen roll to make the clouds. The bane of my life is trying to add some yellow hints to the sky without it turning green. that's my big GRRRRR!
Just watch Alan Owen's videos on YouTube - he often uses a touch of yellow in his skies, and never turns it green.
