One obtion Nicky is to do them yourself, it is a lot cheaper that having a company reproducing them for you. Otherwise you could search on the internet or visit Marketplace on this site and you might find some printers.
Hi Nicky, I have and do sell cards locally in a shop for the past 5 years. I used a craft firm for the blank cards and got prints of my work done on my printer.I stuck pictures on cards with glue all around edges then placed them in a clear plastic sleeve with a sticker on the back saying Recyclable materials hand made by artist. Hope this helps Best regards Paul. P.S: I have been selling them as sale and return so no overhead except initial outlay.
Aqua and Paul, thanks very much for your help. I think I'll have a go at reproducing them myself. I'll let you know how I get on. Paul, do you have a fancy printer? Regards Nicky.
I got an Epson Phot R 220 - It is cheap and excellent, you do not need any better for cards.
I also make cards from my own paintings and also make ATCs. Nicky - if you buy plain cream or white A4 card (available everywhere now card making is so popular), you could print out several pictures on one sheet. Cut them out, stick each picture onto a another piece of card (in a contrasting colour) approx. 3mm bigger to form a border (or frame) then stick onto your greeting card with double sided adhesive tape or silicone glue. Mirri card looks excellent for the border and is available is various colours (inc. silver and gold) and sells at around 75p - 99p per A4 sheet. I have an HP printer/scanner and find it excellent for colour reproduction.
My friend showed me a good idea for cards, that I have tried out as well. We buy "aperture cards" either square, oval or circluar. The ones that fold into three are best as you can hide the back of your picture. You then look through your old paintings (watercoulour are probably best as the paper is not too thick) that you have discarded, looking carefully at them, you can usually find a very nice piece in what is not a very good picture overall. Cut the good bit out and sandwich it with double sided tape into the card. They really look good! Another idea is to give the picture a title as well. Sometimes you see something different if you turn the painting upside down! You can also buy cards that you can stick small pictures on as well, sometimes they have two or three places to put a small picture say about one inch square. This is a good idea for making individual cards for relatives and friends. :-D
Thanks for your help and ideas. I'm going to try reproducing some with the computer, just give me time to work out the finer details for changing the size of the picture etc on the computer. Not very computer literate as you may have guessed. This certainly is a great place for getting help and info. Regards Nicky. ;-)
Hi, thought I'd put my bit in! The Dot Foundry do cards for as little as 55p each + vat (when you order 10) only problem is they have a flat postage fee of £9 odd + vat. Good company tho! http://www.carolerussellart.co.uk/
Thanks Paul and Caz for your replies. I have an Epson Stylus DX4800 it seems a pretty good printer. Thanks for the contact for cards Caz, I shall keep that in mind as an option if I don't get on very well with the printer. I just need to get to know it better!! Regards Nicky :->
Nikki, I use WHSmiths brand cards and a programme from my computer like M/S office which I believe has a card prog. I select the picture from My Documents move it to the font of the card and go from there to the inside and put in what ever msg i want. Hope this helps (lol)
© AND DO NOT FORGET© ©TO ADD© © A DATE© e.g. 01-01-2008 © AND YOUR NAME© or your initials if that is what you normally use... It is your work that is at stake...and of course MAKE SURE you yourself HAVE NOT COPPIED AN-OTHER'S work....
Thank you all for the information and advice. I am experimenting with Photoshop at the moment. Regards Nicky. :->
