Is that how you spell it?  Either way, im holiday and have just done my first two watercolours in public,  in the open.  Its very refreshing isnt it?  Once you get over the awful feeling of "but what if someone sees". Im quite pleased with the results too.  Learnt a lot. Interestingly (this wont mean much to most) i still feel like im being watched and kept dilligent by our erstwhile friend Derek Snowdon.   D
Oh how lovely to see you back here David...I'm looking for the picture you painted outside, have you hidden it ? I just say painting out side, and yes you have to get used to nosey Parker's...it's the ones that make noises of derision  that I don't like.   Funnily enough I saw your pic of planes in my Drama sketch book just the other day and thought about you.  Yes Derek is probably keeping an eye on us all. Be lovely to see your stuff again.  Though I know the next few weeks are your busy time.
"Outside" works just as well as "plein aire".   I was thinking of Derek the other day, when I found a couple of sketches I did with him when he visited the Isle of Wight.  I don't recall what his were like, but mine weren't much cop....
I remember Derek made use of old credit cards in his paintings, scratching away or layering on.
Derek had suffered a stroke, so while he might have used the old credit cards anyway, they were helpful to him because he'd lost the manual dexterity to handle brushes as easily as he might once have done.  Knowing he'd had a stroke, I didn't want to take him too far afield when we went sketching - I mentioned this, and he looked at my walking stick, meaningfully; "anything you can do.." he seemed to be saying.....  Made me laugh, but I did insist on restricting our movements a bit. Maybe he should have slowed down and taken things a bit more easily, because he's gone before us.  But I don't think he was very good with the old slippers and Ovaltine routine: he liked to have a go - and one has to respect that.
