I have found a way of getting rid of most cockles. Paint your painting on unstretched paper (works best on 90lb paper but you can get away with it on 140lbs too) then let painting dry. Turn painting over and spray very finely with a diffuse watermister. Let soak in for a minute or two then place between two pieces of spare watercolour paper that are a tiny bit bigger than your original and smooth flat then quickly place between the pages of a big book such as an Atlas and then put a VERY heavy pile of objects on top. About 3 hours later it should be flat as a pancake. I never stretch any of my paper now. :) :-D :-D
