Good morning, everyone! Has anyone have any experience on masking large areas on their watercolour using masking film or masking tape (or any other solution except masking fluid)? I'm having problems finding the right material to use. I tested on Hahnemühle and Canson Heritage Hotpress papers. On the first I had problems removing the tape (the tape tears the paper surface). On the second one (no problems at all for removing the tape) the water goes underneath the tape a creates a mess. Thanks in advance.
Other than ensuring the tape is securely stuck down, and not flooding the paper too much (because of course the tape is designed to be removed and won't always form a perfect seal), frankly no - this is likely to be difficult - maybe one of our more experienced watercolourists will be able to help with this: anyone? Surprised the tape tore the surface of the Hahnemuehle paper though - I've not used that paper for a long time now, and come to think of it I wouldn't have used masking or tape on it..... it's great stuff, but this is a feature of it I didn't know.
Hello Everyone! After some tests I was able to make things work. I found out that with the Canson paper I have to press the edge of the tape really really hard, with the handle of a paintbrush. Fingers wouldnt do!! As for the removal, I found out that heating the paper with hair dryer softens the glue and makes the removal much more easy!! Thank you all.
