I was wondering if anyone has been inspired by a single colour?
Some time ago i read an article by some artist or other, don't recall their name, and they swore by Quinacridone Gold. Well, I have three or four yellows in my box, so why pay a fiver for another? But, on a whime, looking around my local art shop, I picked it up (Windsor & Newton).
I took it home and did a few doodles. What a great colour! It positively glows off the paper, and conjours up images of cornfields, glowing sunshine, all things summery. Used as a thin wash, it brightens up a dull corner. But used almost neat for dry brushing, it really comes into it's own as a dark gold. I'll be painting a few still-lifes with golden plates, jugs, whatever I can lay my hands on.
Mixing the gold with various blues produces excellent greens too - again lush summery greens. And did I mention the oranges that come from adding reds?
I love this gold and it's inspired a range of subjects for me to paint. So I clearly have a lot to learn about available colours- what colour inspires you? And Why?
And do I get a freeby from windsor & Newton for adverising this wonderful product??
