This thread has dis integrated for some reason. and is starting to include Last ten posts??? Syd
Some odd things have happened to the pagination on the thread ... can't tell what's page 1 or 2. I'm not sure it's disintegrating, though - I think we've just confused the website. In reply to Syd and Sylvia - and Alan - it has from time to time occurred to me that we've been taken for a ride up the garden path here, in that Peter looks to be hovering between all sorts of media and asking for advice on a medium he has yet to try. I'm not 'out' yet, though, because a) this may be an unworthy suspicion, b) most of the questions are fair enough and represent what a beginner would ask: it's their rather close proximity, number, and variety which has caused me to wonder if an effort isn't being made to extract the waste-water, c) just because advice is sought, it doesn't mean that it will always be taken, d) while I wouldn't use a sponge in any medium, it's' a perfectly reasonable thing to do if you want to: painters have used cling-film (one of our regulars does, with his watercolours), sea-sponges, man-made sponges, bits of cloth - God, one of us, whom we don't see posting here any more, even used spoons: not, in my view, to the great advantage of his paintings. And anyway, I don't mind people trying to make me look silly - it's just that I'm so much better at doing that myself.
PS - perfectly understand Syd's point about mass-produced, sponged rubbish flooding the market - it's quite clever, I suppose; but I want art to be a bit more than just "clever". Being original, and not dependent on gimmickry, would be a start.
No. T'ain't soap. It's acrylic resin.
Still hesitating here before forming a judgement .... But then, I'm a trusting soul. It's one of my very nicest features, jostling though it does with so many others.
