Hi everyone I am looking for some help/information for my nine year old granddaughter, I will be taking her to my usual monthly art workshop with me, she is really keen to have a go at watercolour painting, I have done very little watercolour painting but I know the basics, can anyone suggest a book suitable for instruction for a nine year old who has the mind of a teenager. She has an exceptional creative talent both with drawing and writing and I am keen to help her for fill her dreams when it comes to art work etc. Any help information greatfully accepted. Phil
Any book that gives the basics for watercolour , of which there are many. Alwyn Crawshaw books are good for the basics and beyond and he talks plain English without any frills. I think he made a book on watercolour alone and I lent it to someone years ago and that was the last I saw of it.. You want to beware of books that assume you already know everything which are written by brilliant painters but poor teachers or those who have a style nobody can practice even though it look brilliant the way it is done. All the best....Syd
Where are you, when do you want it by - I have a few you can have.
You could also get her to look at a few demos on YouTube - particularly Alan Owen's: in fact, if you tip Alan the wink (and he's feeling up to it - he's getting on, and his health isn't always too good) he might even make one just for your granddaughter. Apart from that, I absolutely endorse Syd's suggestion - Alwyn Crawshaw is a marvellous teacher, and has books and dvds that could be followed by anyone, whatever their age. http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
Youtube is the all time help for your granddaughter specially for this purpose.
I can't email you - "Error Diagnostic-code 550" Either the email address doesn't exist or your spam filter refused my email (which looks like the same this at this end). The message was: HyMermes will pick up the package tomorrow, you should get it about Fri/Sat. Three books - Beginner + Intermediate + advanced. Postage? Forget it. Pay it forwards the next time someone else needs so help. If it bothers you, a feeling of being in debt, and you're on Amazon, just buy me a pad of Bristol Board.. Or - just don't worry.. It's no biggie.
MyHermes picked it up about 5 pm... 48 hr service = 5 pm Fri or Sat morning.. I hope you have a porch to bung it in? I said to leave in in the pooch if one was there.
Leave it in the pooch? This could be a struggle...... I see no good coming of it... http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk

Coo, ta. It's sold, but I should be delighted to do another version just for you, at a merely extortionate price! Enjoyed the pooch pics. http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
