With spring around the corner I'm getting organised to do more painting outdoors. Trevor Chamberlain immediatelycomes to mind because he is an enthusiastic 'plein air' painter. It's interesting that his 'plein air' watercolours are mostly small; 7in x 10in or 14in x 10in. I've taken these dimensions from the illustrations in his book 'Light and Atmosphere in Watercolour'. Largely self taught Trevor Chamberlain describes Jack Merriot as one of his heroes. Merriot wrote 'Discovering Watercolour' a manual on watercolour painting. Long out of print but worth buying second hand if you can find a copy. I've discovered a very informative websie:- Watercolour New Zealand Inc. which has articles about several watercolour painters including both Trevor Chamberlain and Jack Merriot. Worth a long look via the following link:- .http://www.watercolournewzealand.nz/tutorials/resources_articles.htm The image is a plein air watercolour sketch which I painted on one of my visits to New Zealand, I wish to point out that I will not be making comments on other threads. I hope that members, and newcomers will find the content of this post interesting.

Lovely painting. Thanks for linking to that website, too - much of entertainment and interest there.
Thanks for your comment Robert. I'm pleased that you took the trouble to use the link to the Watercolour New Zealand website. I would recommend that Forum members consult the article on Edward Seago. He was a brilliant watercolourist but he seems to have dropped off the radar in the UK. I'll perhaps put up a new thread about him later.
The NZ site is really interesting. I learnt more about Jack Merriot, who used to lead sessions at the Swarthmore Centre in Plymouth on Saturday afternoons. My sister went to his classes, but I was too young at the time. I thought he was just a local artist, but it seems not. I shall read some more, when i get some time. Thanks for the link.
