The article by Shirley Trevana in the July 'Artist'on Daniel Smith watercolours illustrated the lovely varied hues that appear in the washes (see e.g. Moonglow with violets, blue and purples granulating out in the sample on page 35). So I tried it and also Undersea green on Saunders paper. I find that this varied graduation does occur, especially in paler washes so even a plain wash is more attractive. Will I use them? Well they are about 20% more expensive than Daler-Rowney or Winsor Newton but seem quite intense so maybe won't use so much. At the moment I will substitute the green for my Sap Green and the Moonstone for my Cobalt Violet. I actually don't use Sap Green much except for say moss on a Sienna roof or boat hull as I mix my own tree greens but I would say these watercolours are 'gentler' than other brands. The article says they do not dry out so quickly in the paintbox as others so this may an added bonus.
