For a while now I have been struggling a with my watercolours. Not so much when it comes to portraits and nudes, but for landscapes and nature I've been unable to truthfully communicate my vision. As a consequence I have been avoiding these types of motifs. I even let myself become distracted with lino printing for a while.  But now I found inspiration and direction from the late Arne Isacsson. His art and way of working really resonate with me and I feel truly invigorated. Arne was not only an artist but a formidable teacher as well. I like these very much - lovely fluid washes; they're not the kind of painting I want to do, YET: now, you have found them the key to a new way of working which liberates you; in time, I may find the same - that's the whole genius of painting.  If you're stuck, not finding satisfaction in what you're doing, then - do something different.  It so often works.  This way lies progress - sinking into a rut of permanent dissatisfaction is too easy a trap to fall into.  Well done for persisting with experiment, and not giving your brushes away!

Thank you Robert. Yes, I think it's easy to give up when you focus too much on achieving a certain result. It's better to try to find a process you enjoy working with. One which fits your personality. Then the results will come. I hope ...
