It's all just hype, we are seeing the the art world suffering from the same sort of con trick that the financial world is suffering from, no real worth, over inflated house prices supporting 'extravagent lending'.
There are plenty of decent artists out there who can produce works of equal merit to the likes of Constable, Turner, Monet, but the seriously deleluded have been conned into paying over the odds for rubbish that has little, if any artistic merit. Having paid silly money, the art circus then self perpetuates.
When you see what is taught at art college these days though, with little or no emphasis on painting and drawing skills, it is hardly suprising that we have created a generation of publicity obsessed, 'celeb' orientated so called artists.

I registered as a member about a year ago and still haven't posted any of my paintings ! It is just that I am a beginner and when I see all the lovely paintings members post I feel I have to get better before I can go public ! Still, I fancy painting a squirrel and when I submitted my idea (+ a photo as inspiration) to my art teacher, he told me every single hair had to be painted which made me feel daunted ! I very much like Jake Winkle's style of painting animals which is far from realistic but extremely evocative and colourful. Has anyone ever tried to paint a squirrel using watercolour ? Would anyone have any advice to share ? I promise, if i manage to produce a satisfactory (at least to me ) squirrel, I will immediately post it !
B-)
