I'm trying to work out the potential postage costs for sending small paintings (on canvasboard) overseas. By small, I mean something like 8x8 inches or smaller. Now, they would probably be unframed, and I'm wondering if I could get away with a padded envelope plus a little bit of protective card.
Would they be likely to pass as "letters" or would they have to go as "small parcels"?
I just did a "false parcel" run on the Royalmail website and for something weighing a total of 6 oz (about 150 grams) it would cost over £9 to send it to USA (for example) as a small parcel.
I have posted ACEO paintings abroad as letters, but canvasboard and mdf panels are that bit heavier. Does anyone post stuff abroad on a fairly regular basis? Do you think a small painting would travel ok in a decent jiffy-bag, or should it have more protection?
