I have asked this on my POL blog (New Start) but am not sure how often people read those.  So thought I'd post it here too...  What do you think/know about the suitability of hardboard as a support for oil and acrylic paintings?  There's a good deal online from the USA, but precious little I've so far found from the UK - the Ampersand company tells us their boards are made with a very minimal amount of oil, nearly all of which gets baked off anyway in the manufacturing process.  Does anyone know if the same is true for British-made hardboard (or if we do actually make the stuff here at all)?<div>I ask for several reasons: one, I followed the advice given by Ralph Mayer in my e-book, and cautioned against hardboard to some extent; and two, I quite like working on hardboard (not least because it's still reasonably cheap), but have been deterred by adverse comments on its long-term suitability.  </div><div>I can find plenty of contradictory stuff on the web, as you always can - but do we have a resident expert amongst us who can assuage my (probably neurotic) fears?  I have paintings of around 23 years old on h/board, and they're still in good nick... anyway: what do you think?</div>
