Hang on Studio Wall
Message
Hi - I wonder if anyone out there might have  thoughts on canal scene.  I think it's a view of the Waag in Amsterdam from a bridge built in 1920s, but just can't make out the artist signature.  I think it's rather nice!  Cheers
Try dropping it into Google - which is all I'd be able to do with it, because I'm afraid I don't recognize the style or the artist.  Their name starts with F?  But I can't see any better than that, and it could just as easily be A!  The background isn't convincing me that this is by a prominent artist - it's a pleasant painting to hang on the wall, but from what I can see of it, not a particularly distinguished one - I could be miles out here, we do need a closer crop, and a few alternative pictures to be able to make sense of it.
Looked and looked until my eyes ache (and that's true - next time I buy a monitor, I'll have a four foot wide screen!)  There are many paintings of Dutch harbours, covering many years, and the fact that they contain old-style boats or objects isn't of much help, because modern painters have made versions of them.  The thing I can't find anywhere is/are those background buildings - have you had any luck?
I think it is a painting of the Waag in Amsterdam, as you thought, but that's not helping me find the painter, unfortunately.  There are many, many paintings of it, from various angles.
