was just wondering, is your choice of paper when say, using pastels, very important, a few times ive thought half way through something, oh no i think i should have used ........... :-S
I don't think there's much left to do, but I do feel the need to add detail to the windsurfer and maybe a few more "white horses".
Well, 'tis done.

The finished result is certainly better than the preliminary stage, so your instinct to go on was right.
Thank you, Dennis.
It's got the WOW factor Amanda. you must be pleased to have painted such a powerful work.God help the saillors!.....Syd :-)
The go on or give up question is something we all face occasionally, is it going to be a waste of time to go on and should I use the time to start a new project? I have had both this week. On Wednesday I half heartedly toyed with a painting that had been going about 2 weeks, then decided to wipe the whole thing. That afternoon I saw the possibilities of a painting that would fit on that sized canvas so started it that afternoon and it is now finished. Two weeks work buried underneath a picture that took two days. On the other hand I have a figure painting that's been lying around abandoned that I suddenly saw differently, put it on the easel and within 15 minutes it had been resurrected and is on the way to completion. Can work either way. That's what great about painting, opening yourself to new things and not being afraid to junk work where necessary.
I didn't offer my valuable advice on this subject, because I was struggling with one of my own ... and felt sort of unequal to the task.  I've put the wretched thing away - out of sight, because you're quite right: you get so focused on one part of the painting that isn't working, and just can't see the thing as a whole.  Whether I shall be able to wipe it all off and start again, I doubt: CARVE it off, possibly; the paint is so thick after all the fiddling I've done with it that it would be easier to wipe a rock-face.... <div> </div><div>Anyway - you were right to carry on with this one; which is just as well, 'cause you did...  And I .... well, I wasn't...</div>
It's a case of time isn't it? To risk a possible waste of time to no end or start the next one that is hankering to get done. best thing is not make rash judgements. Put a no longer interesting work aside, but keep looking at it. The new one may offer insights in how to go on, so the whole process becomes continuous
