Hang on Studio Wall
Message
Hi everyone. Bought this a few weeks ago, £100. I’m sure it’s a good buy. Can’t find who it is?Wondered if anyone can help? It’s an oil, an eighties piece the seller said. It was tucked in a corner. Examined the sig, just so not clear enough In my veiw. Really annoying.

Martin, if you’ve already done a Google search, you’ll have seen that there are several much earlier slightly differing versions of this (the Cobbler) - by Hermann Kern, Adolph Reich and one attributed to Albert Gruber.  Yours must be a much later copy, although no exact match was found for it.  (I prefer your version!). Perhaps someone will be able to decipher the signature.

Thank you, and no I can’t get the hang of google. Thanks again
Martin, it’s very easy to use - type ‘labnol.org reverse’ into your top search bar, then select Google reverse image search and follow the instructions to upload the image you want to find.  Hope this helps.

Thank you
I'm thinking of campaigning for exemplary prison sentences for those who don't sign their works clearly - the number of times we've had to try deciphering a cryptic signature has  been quite enough to cause one to get ..... quite cross... Yes, there are many versions of this painting, most of which are likely to be prints.  I can't tell if yours is or not, but even if it is, you did well to get it in its frame for £100.  You won't be expecting it to soar in value...  but then, if there's one thing more annoying than artists who scrawl a signature as a joke on those who have to try reading it later, it's collectors who buy art as an investment: I presume you bought this because it's fun, entertaining, a talking point, a handsome bit of decoration - and those are among the best reasons to buy a painting.
Thank you Robert.  .
