Why is it that some posters on the Gallery upload a dozen or so paintings? We don't, on the whole, comment. And if we do, we're critical. And yet they keep doing it....<div>
</div><div>All that's needed is that new posters study the website before they post. And we all - surely - do that. Whenever we add images to ANY website, we first of all study it carefully to ensure we don't offend more regular posters - don't we? </div><div>
</div><div>Well, apparently not in the case of POL: page after page is taken up with a given artist's work; sometimes it's good; sometimes it's (we're being generous here) crap..... It waxes and wanes - we go for weeks without a major assault on our sensibilities and then, bang, crash, wallop; we get a score of the bloody things....</div><div>
</div><div>There's another one there now - frankly, I've taken little account of the aesthetic worth of it, because I'm just FED UP with the arrogance; the assumption that you can swamp the Gallery with your work because only yours is important and others don't matter. </div><div>
</div><div>Over the last few days, a Chinese company has dumped some (excellent) paintings on the site, in order to flog their oil paintings of photographs submitted to them; they're very good, very competent, very assured. I have no problem with them at all:they're produced by highly skilled Chinese artists, trained to the highest standards - and if what you want is an entirely accomplished painting of a photograph of your dog, they WILL do it for you.</div><div>
</div><div>These artists, incidentally, are not only highly skilled, they also care about the quality of their work; just look at it - it's not hard to see.</div><div>
</div><div>So I really don't despise or even criticize them; and anyway, Chinese artists are amongst the finest in the world. But I know that: if I wanted to buy them, I'd seek them out. I don't need POL to be flooded with them. And, for Heaven's sake, we're all artists here: we don't buy each other's paintings - we can paint our own. So if all you want to do is flog pictures, why for God's sake try to do it here? </div><div>
</div><div>Now, the last thing I want to do is suggest that people, er, bugger off; but on the other hand - er, go away, would you? Try selling your paintings elsewhere, eg where someone is more likely to buy them? And incidentally, should you discover a site from which the cognoscenti is inclined to buy: let us know, would you? </div>
