I know it isn't just me as other people have mentioned this, but loads of my paintings that I had posted into my portfolios on the old site are no longer there. I thought POL said they were transferring everything over, but this doesn't seem to have happened? It is very frustrating as I like to look back over the years and see what I have posted, but I can't do this anymore. Has anyone had all their paintings transferred across to the new site?
I don't know if this is what has happened to you, but I couldn't find all my paintings either until I noticed - bleary of eye - that there were several pages of them in each portfolio, and I needed to click on these; a bit of ferreting about uncovered (so far as I can see) all of my bits and pieces. Granted, I don't actually see too well - a bit of a drawback in a painter, but I suppose it stops me getting too fussy - and this may not be the problem in your case.
Durr.... I should have looked a bit closer as I have now found the various pages I can click on and I have finally found my paintings. Honestly, this site is like a Mensa challenge - so hard to work out what to do and how to do it.
You see Thea, if you were a computer wizard like Syd and me (breaks off for hysterical chuckle) you wouldn't have had this trouble. Dunno what to do about Sylvia's, though.... I think to be completely honest this is what happens when you get the technical staff in - there's a lot of changes that they know how to make, and to them it's second nature. I remember having a tremendous problem with my email and broadband generally: rang my provider, and a nice young man named Mahommed gave me the best advice I've ever had about computers - "The first thing, Mr Jones, is not to panic"; he obviously heard it in my voice; he might equally well have heard irritation and impatience. Sometimes I think we who are somewhat richer in years (tact, there; diplomacy - I'm a loss to the consular service) look at the horror confronting us, tell ourselves we can't possibly handle this, what's going on, etc - and stop looking; then we erupt, or call for help, or complain about all these new-fangled changes.... Granted, we probably should if things aren't clear, because otherwise the site builders won't understand our problem, but so often a deep breath, going for a cup of tea, polishing our specs, and coming back in a calmer frame of mind solves the problem almost by itself. We need to remind ourselves that in the war between man and machine, we're still more intelligent than the machines are, and we can work out their infuriating little ways if we just look them firmly and calmly in the eye. This isn't meant to sound patronizing at all, because this is exactly where I've had problems in the past - flying off into a nervous fit, fuelled by a sense of personal inadequacy so far as computers are concerned and cursing the clever little swine who take to them like ducks to water because they were brought up with them. Plus, I thought exactly the same as Thea about my own gallery until I went off to rest my eyes, and then came back for a better look. I hope Sylvia's issues get sorted - I've managed to email Dawn recently, using an email address I happened to have on my system but not sending it from this site, and got a reply. On the blogs, I did change the name of mine - and suspect that's where the problem lies; but it matters less to me than the Gallery, about which I have no complaints whatsoever - I think it's brilliant - and the Forum, which I think I've now worked out and have used without problems. I think we've got to remember this is actually a whopping gurt beast of a site and I'm not surprised there have been these issues in making such a big change to it: I understand that it's a company new to TAPC that has done the work, and Dawn has been learning just as we have, on the job ... give 'em time: we're not being ignored, it's just been hard work to transfer so much data. (Is this all right, Dawn? Cheque in the post? Or how about a directorship ....? Box of cigars....?)
