When I used to post on the gallery, I would take a number of photographs all with a different aperture.  Even with a Nikon I was surprised how much variation there was between the images, yet every other setting, apart from the automatic shutter speed was the same. I would then choose the image that was the closest to the original and load it up into the Gnu Image Manipulation Programme (GIMP - it's free).  I would then tweak the brightness and contrast until I was reasonably happy with the result, but I always thought any further manipulation was cheating, somehow.
That's a thought Tony, taking several photos. I've decided to leave as is. Mainly because there's ar fine line between tweaking and enhancing. I would hate to feel I've cheated. But thanks for your input. Will definitely take several photos though.
Robert, thanks for removing my double posting.. I do try to not do it! Like I've said, I'm going to not edit. Just a crop, so my workspace doesn't show. At least I'm not alone in this dilemma.
