I am really happy to see that the site is now up and running really well after some initial gremlins had to be sorted out.
However, I am still have some problems and things which I think would benefit from a re-think. Don't know if anyone else is experiencing them as well.
1. Uploading your photo - I managed to get my photo on my gallery page, but it didn't go onto the forum as I wanted. Someone else has had the apposite problem - got the photo on the forum and not the gallery. I would have thought that saving the photo in My Preferences would have put it in both places - a glitch I think.
2. The email alerts - on the old site they used to be brilliant as they told you exactly who had made the comment, on which painting, or your blog, and then gave you the comment content and a link to the actual comment. I am getting the content of comments made on my paintings or blogs, but they are a bit garbled with all sorts of weird symbols mixed in with the text, they don't tell me who made the comment and there is no link to the actual comment, just to the main site. I am also getting alerts when it is me replying to a comment made on my work or blog, which never happened before and actually isn't really necessary. Perhaps the alert system needs tidying up and if the template for the old site was used for the new site, that would sort the problem out.
3.I can't find a button to take me back to the front page of the site - i.e. a 'Home' button. There is one for the forum but that just takes you back to the forum home page. I think a 'Home' button would be helpful.
4. The comment boxes on all the areas are too small and you can only see about three lines of text and I have had to keep scrolling back to try to see what I have written. I think bigger boxes that expand with the amount of text written would be more helpful.
4. When I make a comment on a painting or a blog, a green banner just tells me that my comment has been made. However, I don't seem to be able to see after I have placed it and I have to go out of the page and then back in to see the comment I have just made. Think that would benefit from being sorted out.
However, these are all minor problems which I know will gradually be improved or sorted. All in all, the site looks much better and the images are amazing in quality - so bright and sharp - definitely a plus. There are still areas I haven't quite sussed out by, like everyone else I imagine, all is getting clearer by the day.
Anyway, is anyone else experiencing the issues above?

Yes Thea i have made a comment on the gallery with the same result as you The green banner and my comment in limbo . Other members surely have had some glitches so they should add them to this thread as you so comprehensively done. That way we know we are not alone as regards getting glitches with the new site......Syd

I've just been having a look at some of my stuff in my Gallery - staggered by the quality of reproduction now: true, it shows up the weaknesses as well as the strengths, but then that's up to me to ensure I improve my work: and this actually gives me an incentive to do so - concentrated here, I can see what's wrong and what's right with it.
I don't wish to get all soppy and maudlin about this, but I'm really grateful for the opportunity given to us to show our work here.

I do hope someone at POL will read all this and perhaps pick up some of the suggestions. Handling of the the old site seemed so much easier in many respects. It appears that programmers never manage to combine the good things of existing software with all the novelties they want to introduce.

It seems to me that this site has been updated by people who are not used to work with the old one. It is like architects designing an office or a building and not asking some advice from the people who have to work and live in it (like schools without asking the advice of the teachers - I had this experience!!). Personaly, I would like all the works in the gallery to have the same size, as it used to be. Now you have to scroll and scroll…. looking from left to right, up and down. It is marvellous to see the sharpness of the paintings and it looks spectacular but I don't like it. It is like most of the 'modern' magazines and papers: a lot of huge pictures but no interesting text.
Also, how do I get back from the Forum to the Gallery?
It is not because I am not posting any work for the moment (for health reasons) that I lost interest in this site. I am watching the POL every day, even without logging in because I met some very lovely members here. I have the feeling they are really friends. I am still reading all the comments and threads on the Forum, having a look at the postings in the Gallery many times a day.
:) Mia
