I asked the question of the POL team if there were any posting limits on the new gallery and I have been told that there are not. The guideline of 4 postings a day seems to have been removed as well. On the first day the gallery was open for business, one artist posted 30 paintings and another posted well over the limit of 4 that we have been used to on the old site. I know that POL have always shied away from imposing definitive rules or limits to the number of paintings an artist can load in a day, but I have never been entirely sure what worries them about this. I have been on several other art sites, which perform much the same function at this one, and most seem to have limits and rules about posting. I don't see this as being dictatorial or censoring, but more as common sense as allowing one artist to swamp the gallery with their work can't be a positive thing for the gallery, the other members and even the artist doing the posting. When hit by a multiple posting, the gallery loses a lot of its variety as you just get pages of paintings which look pretty much the same. The other members get fed up, especially if they have just posted a painting they have slaved over and it gets relegated to page 4 in a twinkling of an eye and consequently gets less viewings and less feedback. Although the MP doesn't often realise, over-posting works against them as well as people just get fed up and end up ignoring their work. So in the end, I can't actually see who benefits if people are allowed to post over a sensible daily limit? POL have said that they are going to be reviewing this as they see how the gallery progresses, but I think a golden opportunity to sort out what was a running sore on the old site has been missed as the new site could have started up, with a posting limit, and to my mind everyone would have gained.

Totally agree with you Thea - it underlines the point I made that they did not take into account the views of the users when designing the site - lets just hope they see common sense. It would be nice if all those who agree with this add their 'vote' to this thread.
Should have added that the more pressure placed by users, the more likely they are to sort out the problem - and it is a problem.

I agree. As a new member it took enormous courage for me to post a picture yesterday. It's all very well showing a drawing to someone in my household, they're always going to have something nice to say about it; but putting stuff 'out there' is another thing altogether. When that 'thing' then gets buried and nobody looks at it, it's very discouraging...
Have to admit I do not like the new site, out here on the tip of wales our internet speeds are dismal and while the old site was slow the new one work's at a snails pace especially as people appear to be putting high resolution images on the gallery, I am constantly sitting back waiting for things to load. I know this site is purely an advertising exercise to promote the two magazines and as such costs us nothing but I still think that during the build there should have been some consultation with users. With all of the above plus MP's I ask myself if its worth putting up with all this unnecessary frustration just to post an image which will disappear in the blink of an eye.
We took the decision not to impose limits until the new site was up and running and we could monitor how the fantastic new gallery looked and performed. The ability to impose limits is available should we decide this is the best following an initial review of the site in a few weeks time.
Bigger Gallery More space for all your own paintings . What more can you ask for if you are b....y selfish or completely thoughtless or both. grrrrrr. Syd. no emotocoms exist for this behaviour.
