Sorry I haven't contributed much lately, hopefully will be back before long. . I follow POL and Forum and see my friends' contributions, and hope to join you all again soon. The painting 'muse' has temporarily deserted me, and I miss my friends on POL. I know you understand and I appreciate that. My Computer with the old Vista has terminally crashed, so I am now struggling with a new computer, Lenovo Windows 10 and frankly it is mainly a PAIN! yet it has some good features if I can get to grips with them. At 84 (Sorry to keep on about that but I am increasingly a 'Wrinkly'!!!.... Has it advantages though, you can get away with quite a lot and care less about things!!!) But hopefully I will be back soon......Best wishes to all.) Not even sure how to post this...it says at the bottom 'Post new Topic' so I shall click on that with bated breath and hope for the best !!!

Hi Ruth. I have Lenovo and Windows 10 - Adele waits for applause! However, as I know nothing about technology, I don't worry overmuch if I do things right or wrong (normally wrong). Trial and Error, a lot of swearing and a bit of hair pulling. You, like I will survive another day to complain. Seriously I find it okay, the only thing that bugs me is Windows 10 keeps rearranging my photos into different albums and then keeps nagging me to take a look at what they have done - Grrr! Also it tells me when the Driver has temporarily stopped working but that it is now working - I CAN SEE THAT- Grrr! Best of luck.

Oh thank you all so much! Your replies have really cheered me up.n I may or may not battle on with Windows 10...don't know why 'they' had to alter the operating system so greatly. I suppose they call it progress but their progress does seem to have a mind of its own! I like a challenge but this is a bit over the top! I haven't a clue as to how to post anything once the muse decides to re-join me. Anyone know how to find Windows Minus 0001?!!!!!. Hopefully be with you again very soon...xxx

Dunno what Lenovo is - I shall speedily Google it (and has anyone noticed that Google has made a real mess of its search facility? I can only get it to show results by holding down the Enter key: and then, if I try another browser, they pop up to tell me "Google works better on Chrome" - ruddy well doesn't!).
However, Windows 10 is fine when you get used to it, although yes, it keeps telling me things I don't want or need to know, so Ruth all you need is persistence. Just remember you're cleverer than it is, even though you'll often wonder about that, And if you've got it, they tell us you'll never have to update again. (Although I do rather worry that this means they'll do it all for us automatically, and manage to muck everything up in the process.)

Lenovo is the make of computer which is the domestic branch of IBM Robert. You probably know that a complete massive update is coming this month for Windows 10 which will be kind of Windows 10.1. There will never be a Windows 11 (Microsoft say) just massive yearly updates. So by the end of this month, all Windows 10 users will be cursing and pulling their hair out as they try to get used to a whole new system. Happy days!

Yup!! Still pulling my hair out and doing a GRRRRRRRRRRR!!! at Windows 10 every morning, when I find my entire format re-arranged. BUT I will not be beaten by this monster of technology (says I bravely whilst cowering before the latest "DRIVER HAS STOPPED WORKING" message...Fortunately it does right itself, but what, I ask myself, will I do if one day it fails to do that??? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR again.)
Currently I have not a spare inch of space in which to paint....I am having adaptations done to my humble cott. Having endured stand up washes only, for two years since my accident, I shall shortly have the facility of a walk in shower!! Bliss!! No longer will my friends back off with handkerchiefs held to their noses...(Says she hopefully and somewhat wistfully!)
So with luck, the Quirkies will flow again. Oh, Life is fun, isn't it...so long as you can appreciate the joke!)
Joking aside, I really miss painting and cannot wait to get back to it. I do find the current postings on POL in the main vastly different, and a world away from the POL which I joined some years ago.
Incidentally, to those who remember Thea and her lovely work, she has re-joined our Oswestry District Society of Artists and has agreed to demo for us.
More later,
Fond regards to all,
Ruth

Hi Pat,
Am just sticking with W 10 for a little longer. Some features I like, others puzzle me. I was running Vista on an old machine which finally gave up the ghost, was costing too much to keep in repair, so I had to make a move, and opted for a new Lenovo, which most of our hospitals and municipal authorities are using now. It came installed with Windows 10 which I knew would be a challenge. At the moment I am wondering, having become accustomed to using it to a certain extent, whether the devil you know (even slightly) is better that the devil you don't? I may yet decide to go for Windows 7 or 8, but having only used Windows 98 and then Vista in the past, 7 or 8 may both be equally difficult to adjust to. It is very much a great learning curve....which is supposed to be good for you, to keep the old brain cells whirring satisfactorily!!
Cheers,
Ruth

Hi Ruth, I've decided that my Lenovo with the Windows 10 is like have an impatient child standing at my elbow. I have found myself talking to it and thanking it for telling me the Driver had stopped responding but had now recovered. This morning I downloaded some photos from my camera and halfway through it told me to look at the Album it had created for me. If I don't look right away, it reminds me again and again until I have to look in order to shut it up. Life used to be much simpler.

Windows 10 can be customized to minimize its spying on you - unfortunately, I can't remember how, but it would be worth getting a little man in, as I had to anyway when my wireless keyboard malfunctioned, changed my log-in password, and shut me out of the computer; it could be money well spent if the system were tailored to your needs, rather than exclusively to Microsoft's.
There are irritations with W 10, and I was quite happy with W 7, but having got someone to update to 10 for me (I didn't want to do it myself, in case something went wrong) and then having another someone take a look at it, I'm now happy with the outcome.
Until they remove support for Windows Live Mail and I have to think about an alternative .... and I'm sure there are other treats in store, but staying with 7 didn't seem like a long-term option. If you've got it, Ruth, I think I'd stick with it - not, I hasten to add, that I'm a computer expert: I know enough to know I don't know enough, that's all; and if in doubt, I get help.
