Has anyone tried the Derwent XL graphite. I bought one to try out. Plumped for the 06 Very Soft, and it certainly is that. There is a lovely painting of a Heron, in the Artist this month so I drew it and then went in with the graphite block. I used a soft brush to create some shadows by gently stroking it over the pigment. It also takes water well to create rich dark areas. With the size of the block, large sheets of paper - I think, after my first attempt- will show the XL to full potential and has a place in the art box. Has in mine, now.
