As a tail end... I don't remember who said it... The gist of it was Before a show I have my own Private View look at my work change things until I'm happy. Then I can let praise and criticism go down the same plughole. You have to have confidence in your own way. Maybe some would see that as arrogance... so be it. :-S

I had quite a rigorous training whilst taking a diploma of fine art at TAFE interrupted by the birth of a Daughter...I remember how to do everything I was taught and I am pleased to say that I havn't lost my drawing skills but as with anything it's practice, practice, practice and practice takes time of which many who are busy with family don't have...we can only do what we can when we can on the long road of recovering the lost skills. I found this quote by Edgar Degas I found it apt and have kept it around for a while as a personal booster because even the masters didn't always find it easy. And I quote: Painting is easy when you don't know how, but very difficult when you do.

I see in the dec.LP magazineage 7 that the three winners of the recent competition all produced paintings in what I would describe as avant garde or not resembling real representations of anything in nature.Not that I dont like the first and third prize efforts cos I do and find them quite pleasing .The jury is still out on the factured landscape. NOW if any of us put in a really good work in a more realstic style ,would we stand a chance of a win. In todays art world the judges are looking for something " different"from the usual and that is the way it is going .Anyone agree with me ?? syd. ;-)
