I downloaded the November edition of the 'The Artist' today. It featured an article by my favourite contemporary watercolourist - David Curtis. I'd always thought of him as a plein air painter chiefly because of his excellent APV videos. It was interesting that his article describes how he also works from sketches and photographs. That's a method more frequently used by lesser mortals like me. The illustrations in his article -seem to me - as good as anything he's done en plein air. The big surprise though was an article by David Parfitt RI describing how he paints on an iPad air using 'Procreate'. When I took up digital painting I experimented with several painting apps. Autodesk was one I used most frequently but I've now settled on Procreate. It's simple and straight forward to use and David Parfitt's article has encouraged me to stay with it. You'll find him on Facebook . Pleased too that 'The Artist' is moving on to accommodate digital methods.

Curtis is one of my faves too and I was lucky my family bought me a week course with him and others at Staithes - invaluable of course. I haven't an IPad and don't want one and not that keen on the images produced but it will suit many I am sure so go for it. Looking forward to my issue of The Artist.
