I have uploaded 3 paintings I did way back in 2007/8 when I was very much into this art. I used to teach this type of art at my local college and private classes. I cannot find any category for Encaustic Art when I uploaded my work to the gallery? For those who aren't acquainted with, Encaustic art, it is pigmented beeswax which is applied to a small iron, (sometime a thumbnail size iron is used). It is usually painted onto non porous paper, similar to photographic paper. I have extended this to include canvas with some very pleasing results.

I think 'other media' probably covers it: there are so many categories which could be added.... tempera, silverpoint, gouache, for instance. But anyway, encaustic painting is so distinctive when you see it that it's immediately obvious. I love the look of it - and a wax-based paint has the great advantage of lasting just about forever, provided the surface on which it's used is durable. Its only problem for me is the cost of setting up from scratch - I used to use Staedtler's Karat Liqua, a wax-based watercolour, as a substitute: but they stopped making it, apparently for safety reasons which I never understood; Staedtler aren't good at explaining things. Not just the cost, actually, but the space I have available. T'is a pity, because I love those vibrant, rich colours.
