There are those who say they don't like, or get, or appreciate Van Gogh. Well, you're entitled to your opinion (even if I think you've got a problem with the eyesight and comprehension combined...). Today, however, the Isle of Wight oil painter Anne Toms shared this painting, which is in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Its title is Wheatfield with a Partridge, and it dates from 1887: I had actually never seen it before, and when I caught sight of it just now I thought that it just knocks so much modern work into a cocked-hat: it's over 100 years old, but it's as fresh as if painted yesterday, and it makes experimentation in contemporary work look positively old-fashioned. That's my view, anyway: see what you think. http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
I saw this in Amsterdam a few years ago Robert. My big must was to go and see the Van Gogh Museum. It was breathtaking. . I think subconsciously I have been influenced by him. On occasion I have seen work in galleries and been disappointed, but not with these . This is a lovely painting and as fresh and contemporary as the day he varnished it.
Thanks for posting this Robert - it truly is a stunning piece - in fact I'll paste it into one of my folders.
Well said as always Robert
Must go and see it when I'm in Amsterdam in March. thanks for posting it Robert.
