On another thread i mentioned I might move towards oils. And I will.
Paints, brushes, canvass...........not a problem. Where I am baffled is the range of thinners etc.
Low oder thinners, Poppy oil, Linseed, turps, white spirit................aagggggh!
I know I'm really thick, but can one of my more knowledgable friends give me a clue what is used for what? Are thinners just to clean your brushes (I'm guessing its a replecemnet for turps, and neither are used to thin the paint)?
Whats the difference between poppy and linseed oil, in terms of what they do....................
And don't get me started on all the mediums available! Dammit, too late. While in Italy I was taken by the texture worked into paintings of walls and so on. I loved the 3-D effect it gave. Looked like the artist had added sand. Surely it's not that simple!!?
Seriously - I don't want to buy all of them, only to find i only need one or two!
My thanks, in advance.
