I have always thought that accurately drawing the face is the hardest of all painting tasks because the human eye automatically picks up anything at all that is wrong.
I have been watching quite a few videos on the subject and came across a particular short YouTube demo that just left me staring at the screen in admiration and respect for the artist's talent. I assume that much of the tonal variation has come from lifting out - superb.
at 57 seconds, the mouth goes in and that instance, the portrait is instantly recognisable.
Hope nobody minds me sharing this find here?
