I paint outside in the summer using a pochade box to carry painting panels and paints and brushes. It takes only two painting boards, so I looked for pochade boxes on a few of the large art supplies websites. Reading users comments, it seemed that some of the pochades had design faults - they were unstable or the palettes were flimsy. I eventually found this manufacturer, who is based in Bradford and offers some nicely designed boxes at a good price: http://www.abbeyseasels.co.uk http://www.abbeyseasels.co.uk/products/01.html I bought a compact pochade box which holds painting panels of 10" x 12" (240mm x 300mm). It cost £49 plus about £5 postage, and I received it two days after ordering it. I like it because it can hold three painting panels, and there's plenty of space for brushes and paints.

It looks a neat itle box Keora I'm sure you'll be making full use of it. I guess you'll be using it to work in oil or acrylic on prepared boards. I remember seeing an ilustration in one of Trevor Chamberlains books which showed him making an oil sketch sitting on the front passenger seat of his car. Resting on his knees he had a pochard box of similar size to yours. So you'll be in good company.
I was fortunate to find a Mabef pochade box with integral easel and legs for £20 while helping my daughter at a car boot sale! My top painting bargain, it has made plein air work so much easier and enjoyable. Like all outdoor easels it benefits from some weights being hung below the box on windy days but generally that has not been a problem. My studio easel is also Mabef and can recommend them...even if you cannot find one at a car boot sale!
