As a professional artist (whatever that means!), I have used most mediums over the years, and although I do not decry acrylic paint, I must say that my preference is certainly oil. I personally find acrylic too bright for my liking, and although i have tried to tone it down, I never quite get the result i want. However, with oil, it allows me to apply my tonal values the way i want it, and I can achieve the " feel" of the painting, and can adjust the colours much easier.
Anyway, for me, the consistency and the way oil can be managed on the canvas, far outranks acrylic paint. Yes, it is a personal choice, and as i said, I do not wish to critisise acrylics, whaqtever rows your boat, I guess!
