It is the surface you are putting them on...get some sheets of protective parcel wrap [not bubble wrap]....put it between the easel & the surface...or use some foam draft excluder tape...
I've had both table and floor standing easels that wobble and it is so annoying. Surfaces weren't the problem either, maybe the wood warps? Glueing a piece of pencil rubber underneath the shortest leg helps but it would be nice to find a totally stable easel. :-S
Three legs good, four legs bad.... or some quote like that from Animal Farm (lol) Any four point support runs the risk of wobbling.
I never had any luck with wooden sketching-type easels, but am very pleased with my red metal [3-legged] sketching easel which I picked up second hand at a car boot sale a few years ago for £5 !  an absolute bargain.  This easel is very stable and strong, with NO WOBBLES, and there is nothing to come undone on it like on the wooden easels.   It's a bit late if you already have a wooden one, but for anyone wondering what sort to buy I would recommend the metal one.
Winsor & Newton easels are normally excellent quality, I have used two of there wood Table easels for calligraphy for several years without problems. One has had modifications to the available angles and is still stable. A larger Wood Hamilton studio Easel has also stood up to constant use without problems. Take it back or contact W/N I'm sure they will sort it out. It should be stable.
In the 80's I tried every type of easel available in wood and they were all a pain in the you know what...then I found a wonderful metal one with telescoping legs and from then on no problems...as for the Windsor and Newton I would take it back and send an email to them as well...why pay a lot of money for something that is just as bad as one that costs less
Can I mix water soluble oils with ordinary oils? Thanks
