I've trying to paint portraits alla prima for a while and I've been able to get reasonable flesh colours. However, I've been trying recently to change my technique and build up portraits over several sessions using glazes. This is proving a problem. All my flesh mixes use opaque pigments; I just can't get to work out how to get a realistic effect by building up several translucent glazes. Is it me ? Or are there limitations in the Artisan range, which are going to prevent me getting a realistic tone with glazes. I'm willing to bet it's my at fault. How have others managed to solve this. Thanks for any clues.
