For those few who use Flake White, and it's always worth repeating that it's a toxic material containing lead, a quick update. Winsor & Newton and Daler Rowney have not brought it back to their list in Europe, as I earlier hoped they had. At least they haven't to date.
However, Jacksons Art Supplies market their own oil paint (and watercolours) and include a Flake White in tins which I've been using over the last few months. It's excellent paint, and, if you're aware of the risks and take the appropriate precautions, I can recommend it. Flake White is also available from Michael Harding, and from Art Spectrum; Cremnitz is available from Michael Harding, in two formulations, and from Old Holland, amongst others.
Its advantage is mainly in its handling properties: the feel of the paint on the brush is different, in that it's much shorter than, eg Titanium or Zinc, both of which I find unpleasantly oily - sometimes even swimming in oil. So there we are: I'm not out to poison anyone, not even myself, but if you liked using the paint and couldn't find it, it's still out there. See also the Lead Whites topic on this Forum, which includes a good contribution from M Kinnear.
