Hi everyone, Hope someone can help me: I'm new to mixed media but I've done quite an interesting "tree" using gesso, tissue paper, acrylic inks and acrylic paint. I did some finishing touches with a little bit of pastel for highlights and shadows. When I tried to mount the painting I noticed that the mount kept getting really messy and is in fact now ruined. After a bit of thought I realised that the pastel is flaking off. Stands to reason really; I know you can put pastel onto a watercolour painting, but presummably that's because the tooth of the paper is still intact; whereas with acrylics on top of gesso there's no tooth left? I would usually fix pastels with a tiny bit of old fashioned hairspray. If I did that on this painting would it dissolve the acrylic? If it would is there anything else that I can spray on to stabilise it? I would be grateful for any help please, even if it's to tell me to post this under acrylics! I'm sure someone will have the answer, but I hope it's not "start again"! *-) Cheers Jacki
